What is Automation
It allows a task such as manually turning on a light fixture from a switch in a static location to turning it on with a switch in a static location, app, motion sensor, by brightness (LUX sensor), time of day, or other parameters.
Risks of Automation
Outdated equipment—Loxone designs its equipment to be always backward compatible, even as it upgrades.
Support—from Loxone partners, but we can train you if you want to program.
Upgrades—Loxone provides free updates. They can be automatic, allow you to choose to update, or have us do it.
Privacy—Because it is local, it doesn’t require email or personal details to work. It will continue to work even if it is not connected to the internet.
Selecting a Home Automation System
The physical form of automation
Device-based only requires a single device like a bulb or switch.
Hub-based is a device or brain that controls many devices.
Processing location
Cloud-based processing requires an internet connection to send commands to the manufacturer’s server, then return with a command to operate the device.
Local-based signals stay in a local network to operate a device.
Hybrid-based uses a combination of cloud-based and local-based.
Expandability
Wired has the advantage of speed and reliability.
Wireless uses radio frequencies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or other bands.
Loxone can be expanded via wired or wireless.
Integration with other devices
Local, either by wire or wireless within the property.
Cloud connecting through respective internet services.
Hybrid using a combination of local and cloud, depending on the devices.
The Loxone system is a hybrid system.
